This disk contains a scaled-down, sample version of Effects Specialist.™ It is a complete working version of the program, with the following exceptions:
•• Only 6 of the 120 available effects are activated ••
•• The "Save" function has been deactivated ••
•• Each sample effect is limited to 6 characters ••
Please be aware that the full and complete version of Effects Specialist™ far surpasses this sampling in both program functionality and the number of innovative effects available.
A. Text can only be entered by selecting the Text Tool (A).
B. After the Text Tool is selected, click the “A” Pointer on the page. A dialogue box will appear for text entry.
i. Rough placement for text on the page is accomplished by selecting Text Tool and clicking on Page.
ii. Exact placement on the page is accomplished by using the Rulers at the top and left side of the page or the Position dialog box under the Edit menu.
C. Once entered, text can only be modified with the Text Editor Tool (I-beam A).
D. You must select:
i. A font present in your laser printer or available in your system folder, or a bit-mapped font for use with your dot-matrix printer.
ii. The desired Effects Specialist™ effect (see Effects Specialist™ Help or use the Effects dialog box under the Special menu to view a sample of the effect selected).
iii. Size and Style (see Special menu)
E. Select the Kerning Tool (AV) -- Kerning Range is -100 to +100 in units of 200ths of an em.
i. Kerning may be applied to an entire word by clicking on the Arrow Keys in the dialogue box.
ii. To apply kerning to a specific pair of characters, click between the desired characters in the text in the dialog box, then select the amount of kerning you desire between characters.
F. Choose the Rotate Tool to change the baseline of text – characters will remain perpendicular to the baseline.
i. Pressing the Option key while clicking on the Rotate Tool prompts for the exact rotation angle.
G. Choose the Skew Tool to change the angle of text - baseline will remain perpendicular to the page.
i. Pressing the Option key while clicking on the Skew Tool prompts for the exact skew angle.
H. Horizontal Scaling -- Click on the Horizontal Scaling Tool to change the width of text (range is 5 to 2000%).
i. Pressing the Option key while clicking on the Horizontal Scaling Tool prompts for exact scaling.
I. The Eraser Tool will remove only the currently selected effect.
J. The Help Menu is activated by selecting the ? tool.
K. To see the effect on screen, choose Manual or On-Preview mode under the Special menu.
L. To change the View size, choose View under the Special menu.
M. To create a background, choose Edit Background under the Special menu.
i. The size or position of the background is controlled by using the top, bottom, left, and right boxes, or by clicking and holding the pointer on the outer edge of the box and moving the pointer up or down, or left or right.
ii. There are 4 types of backgrounds: linear, log, radial, and text. Each uses the start/end shades and line screens.
iii. The text in the background is set to the current Text menu values (Font/Size/Style) when you enter text. This can be modified as desired.
iv. Patterns can be controlled by adjusting the three modifiers: Start Shade, End Shade, and Line Screen.
v. Color can be added by holding the Option Key and selecting Start Shade or End Shade.
vi. Line Screen angle can be controlled by pressing the Option key and selecting Line Screen. Screen angle can be controlled either by typing the exact degrees or by setting the Dial at the proper angle. Frequency can be set by typing the intensity per inch in the dialog box.
N. To open PICT files for use as a backgrounds, select Load Background under Special menu.
O. Rulers can be turned On/Off by selecting Rulers under Arrange menu. Units of measurement can be set by selecting Units.
P. Color can be added by pressing the Option key and selecting the Shade Modifiers at the top of the page.
Q. Line Screens can be modified in the same fashion as indicated in item M-vi. shown previously.
A. Only point sizes 24 and larger are recommended.
B. Only PICT format (MacDraw and others) or previous Effects Specialist™ or MacPaint files can be used as backgrounds.
i. All Effects Specialist™ images will appear over the background document.
ii. When opened, PICT and MacPaint documents are not editable from within Effects Specialist.™
iii. When printing an open document with a PICT or MacPaint background or printing a previously-saved Effects Specialist™ format with a PICT or MacPaint background, the entire document will be printed.
C. Placement in a word processed document can be accomplished by copying the effect(s) in Effects Specialist™ and pasting it to the Scrapbook (using the Clipboard will provide the same result).
